EMIR OF ZURMI
Alh. Muhammadu Bello Sulaiman (Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi )
The 20th Emir of zurmi Alh. Muhammadu Bello Sulaiman, the emir of zurmi was born on 2nd September 1943 in Boko District of Moriki emirate Zurmi Local Government Area.
His father was the famous sarkin Zamfara Sule, son of sarkin Zamfara Muhammadu, son of sarkin Zamfara Muhammadu, son of sarkin Zamfara Aliyu Sambo. His mother was Hajiya Safiya Abdullahi, who was from the Royal family of Boko. The current district head of Boko, Alh. Ibrahim Isah is her grandson.
His Royal Highness started his early childhood in Mayasa when his father was the then village head of the area. When he reached six years of age, he was sent to Zurmi under the care of his grandfather, Sarkin Zamfara Muhammadu. He was circumcised under the supervision of his grandfather in 1949.
After his circumcision, he started his Islamic education (Karatun Allo) in Malam Dankane’s school with some of his uncles, like late Sarkin Diya Alh. Garba Jirgi.
In 1952, he was enrolled in the lower elementary school Zurmi. After four years, he successfully gained admission into senior elementary school Kwatarkwashi after successfully passing the proscribed entrance examination in 1956.
Having successfully completed the three (3) years are a senior elementary His Royal Highness gained admission into the provincial secondary school in 1959. From 1959 to 1963, his Royal Highness was at the then provincial secondary school, Sokoto (Now Nagarta College). He was in that school in 1963 the he was turbaned as Bunun Kanwa, the Village head of Kanwa in the then Zurmi district.

-LEADERSHIP
Alh. Muh’d Bello Sulaiman was turbaned as the village head of Mayasa in 1952 when he was out of the junior elementary in Zurmi At the time, the administrative responsibility of the area was given to an elderly responsible community member called Mal. Yunusa. He remained the village head of Mayasa until 1963, when he was appointed as Bunun Kanwa.
His Royal Highness held the position of Bunun Kanwa from 1963 to 27/05/2021 when he was appointed as acting emir of Zurmi. On 18/05/2022, he was confirmed as emir of Zurmi, thereby becoming the 20th emir of Zurmi in the line of Sarakunan Zamfara Zurmi.
FAMILY LIFE
His Royal Highness Alhaji Muh’d Bello Sulaiman took his first wife in 1963 when he was appointed Bunun Kanwa.
He married Haj. Fatima Ahmad daughter of the late sarkin Gobir of Isah Alh.Amadu ll and a granddaughter to the late sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakaar lll.
Presently, His Royal Highness has three wives, sixteen children, and forty-five (45) grandchildren.
SOCIAL/COMMUNAL LIFE AND FAMILY TIES.
His Royal Highness has a very cordial relationship with all his associates, particularly his relatives form both his father and mother’s sides. He in particularly respectful to all the younger brothers and sisters to his father who he treat as fathers and mothers some of them are: Alh Sani Muh’d O/C Alh. Usman Abubakar Alh. Balarabe sulaiman (Sarkin Dawaki ) Alh. Lawal Muh’d ( Sarkin Shanu ), Haj. Hadiza Tantaroba, Haj. Inno Ta’akulu and Haj. Halima Auta.
DISTRICT HEADS:
There is a very good understanding between the emir and all his district heads and village heads, just in the same way as there is a very good understanding and respect between the emirate and the council members who are considered as partners in progress.
ACHIEVMENTS
1. The most prominent achievement of the emir is his total support for the educational development of his people in both the Islamic and Western perspectives. This is evidenced in his effort at opening and expanding both Islamic and Western schools in his domain.
2. Paying special attention to the peaceful coexistence of his people as a means of ensuring lasting peace and harmony among his people.
3. When in Kanwa, he received the award for effective and transparent collection of tax in his area.
4. Improved personal and social interaction between the leaders and the led in his emirate. This is evident in his acceptance and attendance of invitations by people in all parts of his emirate, participating in all matters that bring joy or sadness to his people.
